Pope Julius III

Giovanni Maria Cardinal Ciocchi del Monte, Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina, Bishop of Pavia, Legate in Bologna. Elected Bishop of Rome on 7 February 1550 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Julius III, and was crowned on 22 February.

Pope Julius III died on 23 March 1555 in Rome, in the 6th year of his pontificate. He was buried on 24 March in the Grottoes of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica.
