Pope Pius III

Francesco Cardinal Nanni-Todeschini-Piccolomini, Cardinal Deacon of Sant'Eustachio, Administrator of Siena with the title of Archbishop ad personam, and of Fermo. Elected Bishop of Rome on 22 September 1503 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Pius III, ordained to the priesthood on 30 September, consecrated to the episcopate on 1 October, and crowned on 8 October.

Pope Pius III died on 18 October 1503 in Rome, in the 1st year of his pontificate. He was buried in the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica, and his mortal remains were transferred to the basilica of Sant'Andrea della Valle, Rome, in the reign of Pope Paul V.
