Pentecost at the Pantheon

Papal Tombs and Monuments (1655-1799) Part VII

Clement XI
His Eminence Giovanni Francesco Cardinal degli Albani, Cardinal Priest of San Silvestro in Capite, Secretary of Apostolic Briefs. Elected Bishop of Rome on 23 November 1700 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Clement XI.

Pope Clement XI died on 19 March 1721 in Rome, in the 21st year of his pontificate. He was buried on 23 March in the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica, and his mortal remains were transferred on 21 March 1722 within the same basilica.

The Venerable Pius XII?

The NCR's John Allen reports that the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints has approved a "decree of heroic virture" with respect to Pope Pius XII.

If Pope Benedict XVI approves the decree, Pius XII would formally be known as “Venerable.”
