Pope Paul III

Alessandro Cardinal Farnese, Cardinal Bishop of Ostia e Velletri, Dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals, Bishop of Parma, Administrator of Saint-Pons de Thomières, Archpriest of the Patriarchal Lateran Basilica. Elected Bishop of Rome on 12 October 1543 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Paul III, and was crowned on 3 November.

Pope Paul III died on 10 November 1549 in Rome, in the 16th year of his pontificate. He was buried on the same day in the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica, and his mortal remains were transferred on 15 January 1629 to the apse of the same basilica.
