Pope Leo X

Giovanni Cardinal de' Medici, Cardinal Deacon of Santa Maria in Domnica, Administrator of Amalfi, Legate in Bologna and Romagna. Elected Bishop of Rome on 9 March 1513 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Leo X, was ordained to the priesthood on 15 March, was consecrated to the episcopate on 17 March, and was crowned on 19 March.

Pope Leo X died on 1 December 1521 in Rome, in the 9th year of his pontificate. He was buried in the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica, and his mortal remains were transferred on 6 June 1542 to the basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, Rome.
