Pope Pius VI
His Eminence Giovanni Angelo Cardinal Braschi, Cardinal Priest of Sant'Onofrio. Elected Bishop of Rome on 15 February 1775 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Pius VI. Consecrated to the episcopate and crowned on 22 February.

Pope Pius VI died on 29 August 1799 in the citadel of Valence, France, in the 25th year of his pontificate. He was buried on 29 January 1800 in Valence, and his mortal remains were transferred on 17 February 1802 to the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica, where on 18 February he was buried in the Grottoes of the same basilica.
