Pope Alexander VI
Rodrigo Cardinal de Lanzol-Borja y Borja, Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina with the title Santa Maria in Via Lata in commendam, Dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals, Archbishop of Valencia, Bishop of Cartagena, of Eger, and of Mallorca, Vice-Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church, Archpriest of the Patriarchal Liberian Basilica. Elected Bishop of Rome on 11 August 1492 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Alexander VI, and was crowned on 26 August.
Pope Alexander VI died on 18 August 1503 in Rome, in the 12th year of his pontificate. He was buried on 19 August in the church of Santa Maria della Febbre, Rome, and his mortal remains were transferred on 30 January 1610 to the church of Santa Maria di Monserrato, Rome.
