Pope Benedict XIII

His Eminence Vincenzo Maria Pietro Francesco Cardinal degli Orsini, duca di Gravina, O.P., Cardinal Bishop of Porto and Santa Rufina, Archbishop of Benevento. Elected Bishop of Rome on 29 May 1724 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Benedict XIV but shortly thereafter changing his name to Benedict XIII (the previous 'Pope' Benedict XIII having been an Antipope), and was crowned on 4 June.

Pope Benedict XIII died on 21 February 1730 in Rome, in the 6th year of his pontificate. He was buried on 25 February in the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica. His mortal remains were transferred on 23 February 1733 to the basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, Rome. The diocesan process for his canonization was initiated on 21 February 1931 by Pope Pius XI.
