

A blog which aims to suggest to its readers that the externals of religion, while important, are not the be all and end all. As Psalm 4 tells us 'O men, how long will your hearts be hardened, will you love what is futile and seek what is false?' At the same time it will be keeping an eye opened for other stories of interest.



The image above shows the location of Pope John XXIII's original tomb in the Grottoes of the Patriarchal Basilica. This is now the location of the tomb of Pope John Paul II. The images below show the current location of the remains of Pope John XXIII, beneath the altar of the Chapel of St. Jerome.

His Eminence Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, Cardinal Priest of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Secretary of State, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, Archpriest of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica. Elected Bishop of Rome on 2 March 1939 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Pius XII.
The statue of Pius XII was commissioned by the Cardinals he had created, and made by Francesco Messina in 1964. 


The photograph above shows the original monument to Pope Pius XI. Executed by Pietro Canonica, it was deemed unsuitable and was replaced by a second monument (shown below), executed by Francesco Nagni in 1949. The Canonica monument can now be seen in the Lateran Palace.

His Eminence Giacomo Cardinal della Chiesa, Cardinal Priest of Santi Quattro Coronati, Archbishop of Bologna. Elected Bishop of Rome on 3 September 1914 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Benedict XV.
Pope Benedict XV died on 22 January 1922 in Rome. He was buried on 26 January in the Grottoes of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica.
The monument to Pope Benedict XV was executed by Pietro Canonica.
