Pope Benedict XIV
His Eminence Prospero Lorenzo Cardinal Lambertini, Cardinal Priest of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, Archbishop of Bologna, was elected Bishop of Rome on 17 August 1740 in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, taking the name Benedict XIV, and was crowned on 21 (or 22) August.
Pope Benedict XIV died on 3 May 1758 in Rome, in the 18th year of his pontificate. He was buried on 7 May in the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica.
