Restoration of the Cappella Paolina
The Cappella Paolina (Pauline Chapel), within the Apostolic Palace, is separated from the Sistine Chapel only by the Sala Regia. Commissioned by Pope Paul III in 1538, the Chapel was completed in 1540 under the design and supervision of Antonio da Sangallo the Younger.
Two of the frescos in the Chapel are by Michelangelo. The Conversion of Saul and The Crucifixion of St Peter were painted from 1542 to 1549.
The Chapel has recently been the subject of an extensive restoration. Pope Benedict XVI will inaugurate the restored Chapel this Saturday, 4th July, with the celebration of Vespers.
